A little Christmas Fun!

For both Chris and I growing up, Christmas season traditions included watching the Christmas TV specials like Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman, The Grinch, Charlie Brown etc. Last Christmas we didn't bother with these at all - for one they were on way too late and for another, at 18months he didn't care anyways.
This year we thought he might find them interesting and so we watched for when they were going to be on. The first one was Rudolph - it was on a bit late but we thought we'd let him stay up for a special treat. This is a picture of Ryan watching Rudolph - at least until he got scared!
Aside: Our rough and tough little boy has a heart of mush and can be very sensitive - he hates it when we raise our voices at him (he says 'don't scare me mummy/daddy') when he sees things on TV he doesn't like he runs away and he's not a big fan of loud noises (which is why he didn't like the parade this year - all the police cars and fire trucks went by first with sirens going which freaked him out and so he and daddy came home to tell mummy how scary it was!)


Back to Rudolph. I'm sure most of you are thinking that yeah, Rudolph has that abominable snowman in it, he's scary. Well, we didn't even make it that far into the show - apparently the elves are scary. Remember the one who wants to be a dentist? Ryan didn't like him. And the elf in charge who would yell at that elf - well he was really scary and Ryan would run away. We just turned it off at that point - which Ryan was more that happy to do!
This picture was taken another night when we had the Grinch on - "turn if off Daddy, turn it off" Ryan kept asking - we obliged, got him to bed and then finished it!
He did, however, make it through the Charlie Brown special - we didn't even attempt any of the other shows. Maybe next year, or maybe when he's 6!


Last weekend we went to visit Aunt Jacqueline, and she had made a gingerbread house for Ryan to decorate. We had a lot of fun putting it all together - the roof you see Ryan did all by himself along with the trees in front.

Don't forget to find moments in these busy days to pause and remember that Christmas is really about remembering the miracle of Jesus' birth who came to earth to show us who God is and to make a way for us to have relationship with Him.
